2026 INNOVATION AWARD WINNER

Luminsea is honored to receive the 2026 Miami International Boat Show Innovation Award. Managed by NMMA and judged by Boating Writers International, it is one of the industry’s most prestigious honors recognizing manufacturers and suppliers who bring new, innovative products for the boating industry to market.

GLOBAL STATISTICS

Global waterways carry over 80–90% of world trade, yet navigation infrastructure has not kept pace with modern demand. Limited visibility, lack of real-time communication, and rising vessel traffic continue to drive accidents worldwide, creating measurable safety and economic risk across both commercial and recreational sectors. Waterways are evolving, but infrastructure is not, creating a preventable safety gap at scale.

BOATING ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

Over 200,000+ maritime incidents occur globally each year across sectors. The World Health Organization reports ~236,000 drowning deaths annually worldwide.

COLLISIONS WITH FIXED OBJECTS

Allisions account for ~20–25% of reported accidents, making them one of the top incident types globally.

HIGH INCIDENT RATES

The International Maritime Organization reports that ~70–80% of maritime accidents occur in coastal waters and ports, where navigation complexity is highest.

IMPACT OF ALCOHOL AND DRUGS

Human error contributes to 75–96% of marine accidents globally. Alcohol use is a leading contributing factor in recreational fatalities across multiple regions.

KEY CONTRIBUTING FACTORS

Top causes across global datasets:
• Operator inattention ~30–40% of cases.
• Inexperience ~15–25%.
• Equipment failure ~10–15%.
• Reduced visibility and poor navigation guidance.

DROWNING AND LIFE JACKET USE

Globally, 80–90% of drowning victims were not wearing life jackets at the time of the incident.

A SMARTER APPROACH

CHANNEL MARKER INFRASTRUCTURE

Luminsea’s smart channel marker technology is designed to bring together enhanced visibility, real-time information, and connected infrastructure in a single modern system. The goal is straightforward: help make waterways safer, clearer, and better equipped for the future.

Illuminated LED Displays

Visibility up to 1500 meters, ensuring clear navigation.

Real-Time Data

Displays storm alerts, tides, navigation advisories, and safety messages.

Smart Connectivity

Can communicate with maritime signals and alert authorities in real-time.

Integrated Cameras

Monitors boat traffic as vessels enter the channel.

Low Visibility

Aluminum markers lack illumination, making nighttime navigation hazardous.

High Maintenance

Frequent repainting and physical checks increase operational costs.

No Real-Time Communication

No real-time updates or ability to display critical information.

Limited Data Collection

No tracking or monitoring capabilities for maritime traffic.

DEPLOYMENT

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS

Phase 1:

Assessment & Planning

We work with your team to evaluate current markers, identify key locations for upgrades, and assess local conditions and safety needs. This phase includes environmental and navigational reviews, along with stakeholder input.

Phase 2:

Proposal & Coordination

Luminsea prepares a customized plan, including proposed marker locations, technical specifications, budget estimates, and a rollout timeline. We handle all permit coordination with agencies like USACE, FDEP, and USCG to ensure regulatory compliance.

Phase 3:

Pilot Installation & Testing

We install a limited number of Smart Channel Markers in selected areas. These markers are monitored for performance—lighting, solar efficiency, GPS accuracy, and user experience—to ensure optimal results before scaling.

Phase 4:

Full Rollout & Partnership

Based on pilot success, we work with your municipality to expand the installation across your waterways. Luminsea provides full training, maintenance support, and system upgrades as needed, forming a long-term partnership focused on safety and innovation.

Lighting Your Way To Safety

PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM

Luminsea partners with select municipalities, cities, and counties, offering early access to cutting-edge waterway safety technology and the opportunity to lead a new standard in marine navigation.
